From Katie B…
After a few weeks off writing the newsletter, we’re back! I’m on a week’s holiday and really getting into the spirit of Christmas (10 days to go!!). You’ll be glad to hear that a new episode will be landing into your inbox later this week 🎉. I’m going to start carving time out each week to dedicate to the podcast and get episodes out for you all and have more catch ups with Katie W! We’ve achieved so much this year and we can’t wait for 2022 - bring it on ☺️
From Katie W…
Sorry for the little radio silence. But this gives me a chance to kind of ramble a bit of what’s been going on since social media can just look like a highlight reel. I’ve been finding it tough to want to do anything after work, which is a shame because Northern Natter was my saving grace hobby. But staring at a screen, pushing out articles after articles like a conveyer belt, by 5pm by brain is fried. Couple that up with the dark evenings and spending every day on my own, I got into a habit of just turning into a human burrito in the evening with the cat.
But the other night, I dragged myself to the gym and had a good hard think about what I wanted. And I want my hobby back.
As the world started to open up, we saw remote working opportunities fall but there was absolutely no need to - proving that the message from Northern Natter is still needed.
So I’m going to carve out time each week to dedicate myself to Northern Natter, our listeners. You. So hold me to account if I don’t (Katie B, you can yell at me too) because I want to keep bringing you the goods.
Journo tip of the week
Let’s talk about getting the scoops.
Of course the Downing Street party has caught everyone’s attention, but if you’re wondering how news sites can even get this information, Ros Atkins interviewed the Mirror’s Pippa Crerar and ITV’s Paul Brand about how they got their information and broke the scandalous news.
Highly recommend any student or new journalist to watch here.
NN Reacts - what we love:
Katie W: I watched Tick Tick…Boom and WOW Andrew Garfield left me stunned. It was like a tragic love story about broadway and my theatre kid roots loved every minute of it. 10/10 recommend for any drama nerd.
Katie B: If you haven’t seen the film Nativity, it’s such a feel-good Christmas film! 100% recommend!
