Hello Natterers! We thought we’d surprise you with a Saturday newsletter. How’s your week been? We have been super busy, as per, the last couple of weeks so there was no new episode last week. We are recording an episode today about starting up your own publication and a new episode has JUST dropped-all about breaking into broadcast journalism, TV and networking.
Listen here!
From Katie B…
After finishing my job last week, this week has been really busy! With job interviews next week, doing freelance work and editing podcast episodes has kept me busy this week which I’m super pleased about. It’s been nice to see that my portfolio of work has been appreciated by prospective employers even after I’ve branching out into podcasting!
In other news, my Mam and I are onto lockdown DIY 3.0! We’ve painted my bedroom and ordered some new furniture for the spring! As the clocks go forward this Sunday, I’m really looking forward to the later sunsets and walking more 🙌🏻🌅
From Katie W…
Have I been converted to the 9-5 routine? For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been doing virtual work experience at Radio Clyde News and it has been so eye-opening. First of all, 9am starts aren’t as bad as I thought they’d be and secondly, some of the interviews I conducted ended up being aired! On a 5 minute news bulletin, it’s just an 8 second clip but I was buzzing when I heard it. I’m thinking of making a wee video for Instagram talking about my work experience, what do you think? Is that something you’d like to see?

How can the industry be more accessible?
In our latest episode, our guests Rupa Mooker, Ellis Palmer and Evie Muir discussed diversity and inclusion in the media industry.
Evie talked about how social justice needs to be embedded in journalism by the journalist and the editor at three different levels; on an individual level, organisational level and institutional level. She expressed the need for journalists to recognise colourism, privilege and classism in the words that they write so that the editor can recognise a more reflective range of stories.
